MOA Prayer Hall

2017

Located within the Mall of Antalya shopping complex, the MOA Mosque was conceived as a calm, understated, and serene place of worship embedded in a public building. The project is designed as an inward-focused space of stillness amid the intense circulation of the mall.

The prayer hall is positioned to receive natural light and air directly from the exterior. This decision brings a sense of vitality and openness to the space, allowing the atmosphere to change subtly with the daylight throughout the day.

The architectural language is built on simplicity tempered with a measured sense of monumentality. Stone and wood serve as the two primary materials, their contrast and harmony aimed at creating a balanced expression. A modular wooden ceiling grid introduces a geometric rhythm, offering a contemporary interpretation of the traditional central-space composition. On the floor, the patterned carpet subtly indicates the qibla direction, while the green stone used on the mihrab wall provides a quiet focal point.

The ablution area, entrance, and the women’s and men’s prayer halls are organized as a cohesive whole. The intention is to ensure that each function respects the presence of the others, allowing movement before and after prayer to flow naturally and intuitively.

Without relying on formal assertions, MOA Mosque speaks through the dignity of its spatial character, offering a place of calm and humility within the intensity of contemporary urban life.
